I understand what Raymond ment when he said that each application that does not run, means 1 less person who converts to the latest version.
I use a USB modem provided by my ISP for my DSL connection. This is a "Tera-100U" and works fine with XP. But I have not been able to get it work with either Windows 2003 or Longhorn. I am unable to find an updated version of the driver, not does my ISP know of a new version.
This is proving to be a real pain as I now do not have access to the net from those two OSes...:-(
If someone does know of a upgraded driver, do let me know.

I use a USB modem provided by my ISP (TouchTel aka AirTel, Karnataka) for my DSL connection. This says "Beetel" (plus "Yozan" on a small sticker) in front and "Tera-100U" under a sticker at the back. It works fine with XP, except that its driver stops my computer from hibernating or even shutting down properly. As soon as I unplug the USB cable, the comp shuts down/hibernates. Can anybody provide me with an XP hibernation-compliant updated driver please? Thanks a lot in advance!

I subscribed to Airtel Broadband on Nov.19, 2004. I also face the problems mentioned above i.e.,1)works for a while and system crashes 2) Does not shut the system 3) Blue screen with very serious error message. Contacted Airtel and they say Beetel modem there are no complaints at all from anyone!. I think we should all join and sue them for damages.Nothing less than a Legal action make them open their eye. It is a serious driver problem. Some time thje same happens with Me Platform also.

You guys are sure right.. Man this sure is a serious problem.. Any downloads with any P2P connector like Bearshare or Shareze the modem conks up and the blue screen error comes up. Something to do with the file NDIS.sys which anyone can figure out is the driver file for the modem.
Anybody solved the problem please let me know.. i will be damn greatful.. Not able to download anything..

This Airtel BEETEL connection is not only compatible with windows XP but also does not have the required firewall. It allows trojans and other viruses to download on to ur comp. My system crashed the very first hour i had bought it. It conks up the moment i get online. ur right we shd sue these BEETEL airtel people for making us spend so much of time and money! they better damn set it right. They had to cheek the deny that others didnt have the same problem when i called them up with this issue! It sucks!

I subscribed to Airtel DSL in December 2004 and was initially given a Xavi 7005 USB modem - however, the driver was not WHQL certified and apparently used to disconnect the modem every couple of hours. Airtel replaced it with a Beetel ethernet modem that seems to work perfectly fine, and no - there are no issues with the firewall either, because the modem is ROM programmed, and there is no DUN involved either.
I use Windows XP with SP2 and use two network adapters - one to receive the feed from the ADSL modem and the other to distribute it to my local network through DHCP. Windows Firewall and and Symantec's worm protection (2005) have been so far effective, and I've been using it without any problems - even to the extent of configuring VMWare virtual PC's to run on it!

My brother is having the same "IRQL Not Less Or Equal" problem with ndis.sys file. This is a serious problem and occurs only when he downloads using a P2P client.
He's using the Airtel Broadband connection with Beetel Modem.
The only solace for Airtel is that this problem is quite widespread, and is not specific to that particular modem only. Generally people have been having problems with ADSL modem drivers. Try searching on the internet for 'ndis.sys', and you would come across lots of discussions on this, sadly without any definite answers.
Some people say its a problem with the RAM, others say their cooling fan stopped working.
But Airtel has to do something about this, cause its causing a hell of a lot of problems. Comps are getting wrecked.

Airtel changed my brother's modem and its working fine for the moment. I commend Airtel for their quick action.

I am also using the Airtel Broadmand Internet with Beetel USB ADSL Modem. I am also facing such problems of sudden crashes inspite of having installed service pack 2 & windows security update.
I also want to use the same in Linux, can anybody advice me (at pandeyvivek@yahoo.com) where I can get its driver for Linux.

Ever since I hv had this dsl connection with a Zyxel modem I hv had a system breakdown five times ! Thats in a month and a half ! Costs a lot too rectify and not forgetting the anxiety. Airtel must get their act together. Another system breakdown and I will go back to dial up !!

Try changing the encapsulation of the modem (for the Globespan Virata Tera 100U) from PPPoE to PPPoATM (RFC 2364). You can do that with configure option in the program group for beetel DSL modem. Works like a charm for me.
