So Microsoft is increasing the dollars it is investing in fighting Google in the Search space. After Cashback , Search Perks is the new kid on the block.
While Cashback gave you money when you purchased stuff via live search, Search Perks actually trys to increase the use of live search for normal searching. With Google increasing its share of the US Search market recently, Microsoft wants increase usage of live search.
Search Perks give you points for using live search, up to 25 per day. Then you can redeem these points for goodies at their site. This is supposed to run till April 2009 as of now.
So will this help Live Search increase it usage. Yes, but by how much is debatable. Though I use live search a lot, I find for things that are not very common, Google still gives me more accurate results that live search. So though this may get people to start trying out live search, MS needs to really up their investments in the Search algorithm if they want all those new users coming in to stay with them

The contest started 10/1/2008.
They give you 500 pts for signing up.
The Xbox 360 controller costs 5,500 pts.
This leaves 5,000 pts to be earned.
At most you can get 25 pts per day.
5000/25 = 200 (days to get enough tickets).
200 days from 10/1 is 4/19.
The contest ends on 4/15.
There is no way anyone could obtain enough tickets to purchase the controller. Shame on Microsoft for misleading consumers!
