Progress Display on the Dock

One of the cool features that I found most useful in Win 7 is the display of progress in the dock icon. I am not yet sure of how it works and if there are special APIs to enable it, but if there is a dialog or windows that is showing a progress bar, e.g. IE download progress dialog, then if you minimize the windows, then the progress is displayed over the icon in the doc.

Downloads

In the above picture, an download is in progress and you can actually see the status of the download just from the icon without the need to open or even see a preview of the window.
